Born in Los Angeles Jaymie and Miles are born in LA and grow up five exits from each other in the hills just south of the 101. Miles spends every summer camping and surfing up and down the California coast. Jaymie spends every summer crafting and water skiing at Camp Tanuga in Michigan.
Jaymie moves to Mobile, AL. She overcomes the initial culture shock and comes to love crawfish on the bay, the annual week of Mardi Gras celebrations, and nights in the Colonel Dixie parking lot. She says, “bye y’all,” to LA (Lower Alabama) and leaves to attend college at Middlebury.
Miles is stuck in the blistering heat of the Valley. He becomes obsessed with Tarantino, Soderbergh, and Smith, and masters the art of tape-to-tape VHS editing. He delivers the legendary Topanga pizza, listens to alt rock, and reads tons of sci-fi. He leaves for UC Berkeley with big dreams.
Jaymie and Miles separately travel through Europe in the summer of 2000. They both picnic beneath the Eiffel tower, eating brie and baguettes, and drinking red wine. She climbs the tower, he doesn’t. Does she see him from the top? They like to think so, but either way they only scratch the surface of the city and would need to come back to fully experience its magic.
Jaymie moves to NYC and kicks off a career in banking. She wears pink cashmere sweater sets, unearths the best burgers in town: JG Melon’s (uptown) and Corner Bistro (downtown), and falls in love with the charm of the West Village. In the summer of 2005 she decides to leave NYC and pursue an MBA back home in LA (Los Angeles). But first, a trip...
Miles starts medical school at UCSD and moves into a house on the beach in Del Mar. He surfs, makes a couple short films, and occasionally attends class. Increasingly disillusioned with medicine, he makes the difficult decision to quit his plastic surgery residency and join the nascent online video industry back home in Los Angeles. But first, a trip...
Jaymie and Miles separately travel through Peru during the summer of 2005. Jaymie takes the Lares trek, Miles takes the train. They both reach the summit of Machu Picchu and are humbled by the spectacular ruins and advanced engineering of an ancient civilization. They miss a chance encounter by a week, but the trip will encourage them to follow their passions.
Jaymie graduates from UCLA Anderson and lands a job at Auberge Resorts (not coincidentally, the operator of Esperanza). She travels the world turning up new deals, and after a great run leaves to start a luxury hotel investment company (launched out of the Santa Monica public library). Her life is exciting, but she’s missing someone to share it with...
Miles picks up shifts at urgent care centers and hustles to produce online videos. In 2006, he creates lonelygirl15, a blog-style web series on YouTube that becomes more popular than he ever could have hoped. He speaks on panels, produces more web series, and starts a digital media company. His life is exciting, but he’s missing someone to share it with...
Miles is invited to Sundance by Jaymie’s cousin Adam. While riding the chairlift, he complains that it’s impossible to meet a woman in LA who’s beautiful and intelligent. Adam, always the connector, suggests that Miles call his cousin Jaymie because she’s “incredible” and he “won’t regret it”.
It takes Miles awhile to call Jaymie... but they finally connect. Jaymie and Miles hit it off on the phone and set a date for July 5th.
Miles is throwing a 4th of July party with Chris and Ara. Unbeknownst to Miles, Jaymie is good friends with Ara and is staying at the house in Malibu for the weekend. She puts two-and-two together, and when Miles shows up to the party, she introduces herself, “Hi, I’m Jaymie, and we have a date tomorrow.” Miles thinks she is very cute.
There is a lot of controversy about their first date at El Carmen. Sometimes, Jaymie thinks fondly on the spicy margaritas and great conversation. Other times, she’s not impressed that she had to meet Miles halfway across town for drinks and snacks (no dinner!). He’s pretty sure they kissed, her, not so much. Either way, both of them were interested in seeing each other again.
Jaymie and Miles continue to date. Their busy schedules make it difficult to see each other, but they prioritize their relationship, see each other more and more frequently, and eventually Miles moves in with Jaymie in Venice. They begin to create a life together. Now, if only he’ll pop the question (about which, Jaymie has given hundreds of not-so-subtle hints)...
Miles surprises Jaymie while visiting her brother, Bryan, and his wife, Becca, in NYC, and whisks her away on a trip to Paris. Everything goes according to plan and he proposes to her on Pont Neuf in the middle of the Seine. A hidden photographer captures the moment (CLICK HERE FOR ALBUM), and they wander the streets of Paris for an impromptu photo session. Their time together in the city is magical. (In case you're wondering, she says, "Yes!")
Jaymie and Miles are getting married in Cabo at the lovely Esperanza Hotel on December 7th. Please join us for the festivities kicking off on December 5th. We’ll see you in Cabo!
